Nicole Beatty announces candidacy for Cobourg Council

July 25, 2018

Cobourg, ON — It’s been a civic aspiration of hers since she moved back to her hometown in 2013 and today Nicole Beatty made it official – she’s filed her papers to be a candidate for Cobourg Council in the 2018 municipal election.

“I was born in Cobourg and spent my youth here.  I left for 15 years to go to school; to grow up; to explore.  But when my sisters started having families and friends began moving back I had an inkling to do the same.  I’m glad I did because its been the greatest adventure yet,” says Nicole Beatty who is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and operates her own consultancy while serving on several local charitable boards and committees.

“I’m campaigning on the values of transparent communication, cross-sector collaboration, financial stewardship and efficient governance,” Beatty says.  “I’m keen to share my platform with the public and will be publishing it shortly. My goals will focus on economic development, culture and tourism, youth engagement and social policy.”

After living in Ottawa, Toronto and Melbourne, Australia, Beatty moved back to Cobourg where she was keen to explore her roots as an adult. She was quick to get involved, starting two charitable organizations in Northumberland County, initiating the local 100 People Who Care movement, co-founding Cultivate: A Festival of Food and Drink, starting her own business, contracting with local organizations such as Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation, Green Wood Coalition and Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre, and volunteering with several community causes and campaigns at both the board and grassroots level. Beatty was recognized for her community service at the 2017 Cobourg Civic Awards with the Mayor’s Award of Distinction.

Beatty and her partner Warren, a Cobourg native and Red Seal bricklayer, are newly proud first-time home owners and live downtown. She is a proud Auntie to eight (soon to be 9!) nieces and nephews. Beatty is the CEO & Chief Community Builder of NicBea & Co. and is a Senior Consultant with Global Philanthropic Canada. She’s an avid reader and writer, is determined to conquer the ukulele and enjoys riding her bicycle around town.
